TikTok has announced the impending closure of its subscription Music streaming service. TikTok Music will officially wind down on November 28. Launched to compete in the music streaming market, TikTok Music was available in select countries, including Indonesia, Brazil, Australia, Singapore, and Mexico. Despite its initial promise, the platform struggled to gain traction and user engagement. Conversely, this has seen the company reevaluate its strategy in the music space.

“We will be closing TikTok Music at the end of November in order to focus on our goal of furthering TikTok’s role in driving even greater music listening and value on music streaming services, for the benefit of artists, songwriters and the industry.”
While releasing the announcement, the company says it plans to concentrate on the “Add to Music App” feature which was introduced last November. This tool allows users to seamlessly save tracks they discover on TikTok to their preferred streaming services. This feature has created a more integrated and user-friendly experience. Moreover, TikTok aims to enhance its role in music discovery and listening without the complexities of managing a standalone subscription service.

With the new announcement, TikTok music has urged it subscribers to transfer their playlist to other platforms in good time to avoid “inconveniences”. Those who had paid a one off subscription have also been urged to apply for their fund before then. After the 28the of November, all data on the platform will constantly be deleted.
“Please ensure you complete the following actions (if applicable) by the specified deadlines: Transfer Your playlists: by October 28, 2024, Request Refunds: by November 28, 2024. Please note, your TikTok Music account information and personal data will be automatically deleted following the closure of TikTok Music.”

The Close down of TikTok music has left it’s competitors smiling and adjusting their dominion in the space. This include apple music, Spotify and universal music among other in the music streaming business.
