“SHUJAAZ CONCERT”; CELEBRATING FALLEN SOLDIERS

 

In light of the recent mass action anti-government protests across Kenya. A handful of Kenya youth lost their lives not only while protesting in Nairobi, but across the country. This is despite the declaration by the now “Tribeless and leaderless” youth that the protests were peaceful. The police however did not honor the fact that these young protestors have a constitutional right to protest. In Nakuru at least 6 young protesters lost their lives while protesting.

Due to This, “the rage and courage” Gen Zs sort to hold concert to honor the lives of the fallen soldiers.
On Sunday ,28th of July 2024, the Nakuru Youth dropped a concert they named “SHUJAAZ ” Concert nakuru Chapter. This comes from a Swahili word ‘Shujaa’ which means hero or a Legend.
The event which  went down at Nyayo Gardens saw hundreds of young people attending. The comrade’s from different parts of the city county came wearing black, red or white attires, carrying flags and water bottles which were sort of  “prerequisites” for the concert. This however did not warrant any of them who lacked those from attending.
The concert brought creatives from across Nakuru with the sole purpose of honoring not only the deceased but also their families. Artists including ” Mbunge Aliyeparara” Silweyz, Nyash the poet  and Willie, performed special pieces they wrote highlighting the haphazard flow of events during the Maandamano. They’ve also used their art and wordplay to call out the police for utter misconduct during the protests.
Dj Big Mitch, Dj Adox, Dj Milo and Dj Reinherd among other DJs present Doctored the vibes on the decks. Tens of Dance Groups were also present among many other key contributors in the entertainment space. The say music heals and the Gen Zs took it as literal as it can Get. This is not only in Nakuru but also in a Nairobi where the Genesis of road “post protest” jam session began.
This was the 2nd of it’s kind in Nakuru. On the 21st of July, the Nakuru had another Shujaaz bash which was not as big.
When the Mics were open, the hypemen and Mcs led the crowd into Chants like ” Ruto must go” among many other common ground phrases during protests.
