“What a season it has been, wrapping it up ranked the 2nd fastest man in the world with a time of 9.79 – a testament to the hard work, dedication, and resilience we put in day in and day out”
After cruising to victory at the men’s 100m invitational in Brussels, Ferdinand Omanyala has spoken openly about his 2024 season. The Kenyan sprinting icon has acknowledged that the season didn’t go as smoothly as he had hoped. The season’s difficulties were exacerbated by his inability to compete in the Diamond League meets due to a 2017 ban imposed by the Athletics Integrity Unit. Consequently, he missed out on the points necessary to qualify for the League’s finals. Nevertheless, Omanyala is determined to press on, with plans to continue showcasing his exceptional talent and dedication in future events
“A win is a win…I was expected to run yesterday but there was no open lane because we did not get enough points. Some organizers told us that we had a previous ban we couldn’t run in their Diamond League, so we couldn’t get enough points to run yesterday (the men’s 100m Diamond League final),” He notes during an interview with CNN’s Larry Madowo. Omanyala says he’s now looking for to next year. He has vowed to keep showing the world what comes off Kenyan In terms of Sprints.
