In the recent past, Kenyans have marvelled at the fact that the Kenyan sound has been breaking through the international entertainment ceiling, placing the country on a beautiful pedestal on the entertainment map across the world. The recent one is Anguka Nayo, by Wadagliz Ke which has surpassed 2 million views on YouTube in less than 2 weeks. The track has now reached the heart of Hollywood thanks to the US-based Kenyan entrepreneur Miss Rachel Mbuki. While hosting the NBC Summer press tour red carpet, Rachel made a handful of American TV stars “ kuanguka nayo”, while sending shout-outs to Kenyans. This track has now become a street anthem, evident during Tuesday’s anti-government protests where youth chanted, “Zakayo Anguka nayo”.
On the other hand, “Digi” by Arbantone singer Mr. Tee has now become the most popular Kenyan song in Nigeria. The hit has up to 184, 930 listens on Spotify across 4 different cities in Nigeria.
The tracks widespread in the country inspired Nigerian artist Darkoo to produce “Favourite Girl”, which draws inspiration from “Brick and Lace Love Is Wicked”, which MR Tee and TennorBoy sampled to produce Digi
Tuko Entertainment Awards 2024 Nominees.
This is not the only track that has gone viral in the world this week, “Lululala”, by Willy Paul Alias Pozze was not left behind. Taking to his Instagram page, Pozze boasted of the success of his track hitting the trends in Europe. In a post that borderline threw shade at other Kenyan artists, he noted

“Kenyan musicians need to put in work, like Pozze, ndio msikike outside east Africa, like Pozze, I don’t know why I’m the only Kenyan mwenye mziki yake inavuma nje”. This comes less than six months after his track “Yes I do”, featuring Jamaican singer Alaine also hit trends in the Philippines.
There has been immense criticism toward Kenyan artists based on arguments that Kenyan music has not been performing well on the international scope. However, the shells are now being broken, and Kenyan music is indeed breaking through to the world.
