Mother’s Day is a celebration that honors the mothers of the family or individual, as well as motherhood, maternal bonds, and the influence of mothers in society. Across the world, this day is marked and celebrated on different days, most commonly in March or May.
This year’s celebration was marked on the 12th of May 2024. In Kenya, Mother’s Day is not a public holiday and most businesses follow regular opening hours. Kenyans celebrated Mother’s Day in many and different ways including:
Giving cards, flowers, or cakes.
Family gatherings or visits.
Family breakfasts, brunches, lunches, and dinners either at home, at a café or at a restaurant.
Personal phone calls, particularly from children who live away from their mothers and/or mother figures.
Mother’s Day poems and messages.
Gifts of chocolate, jewelry, accessories, clothing, hobby equipment or tools, handmade items, or gift vouchers.
A day at the movies with mothers and/or mother figures.
Celebrities in Kenya were not left behind as many of them took to social media to pen heartwarming messages to their mums and partners in their lives on Mother’s Day to show their appreciations and love.

1. Sammyro.
The celebrated content creator Sammyro marked Mother’s Day in a special way by getting a tattoo dedicated to his late mother. Sammyro took to his Instagram page with a post of his tattooed leg with the caption “Love you forever Mamaa. You raised a beat. Keep resting.”
2. Sean MMG and YBW Smith.
The first rising Arbanton artists Sean MMG and YBW Smith came together on Mother’s Day and released a song dedicated to their Mother’s titled “Dear Mama.”
3. Sammy Boy.
Sammy Mogaka Ondieki known as Sammy Boy is a Kenyan forex trader and entrepreneur turned musician who rose to fame in 2022 after he came out in public to defend himself after several controversial videos. Many people were wondering what Sammy Boy really does because he is so rich among other youths. On Mother’s Day Sammy Boy surprised his mother with Ksh 250,000.
4. Prince Indah
The celebrated Ohangla musician Prince Indah dedicated mother’s day to all single mothers. Taking it to his Instagram page, Prince Indah wrote “Hello #Teamjanabi, am dedicating this day to all single mothers who are struggling to raise their children in hard ways. Hope is yonder! Happy mother’s Day”.
5. Jalang’o.
Lang’ata Member of Parliament Phelix Odiwuor, aka Jalang’o, took to social media to celebrate his wife, Amina Chao in a post that was captioned, “Let me celebrate Jaber, mama watoto! Happy Mother’s day my Love! You are a true support system!”
